How this is not considered one of the finest action movies of the decade is beyond me. It is brutal, hard-hitting, exhilarating and contains a world so fully realized that I have to smile. The costumes, the mayan decorations, the jungle, the temples, everything is perfect. Equally colorful and real, the film juggles emotions and violent action wonderfully. It's a powerful movie that never lets up or looks back. One of my all-time favorites. I wish people could look beyond whoever Gibson is as a private person and see him for the brilliant master director he can be. Also, I hope his viking film will see the light of day sometime. It would be epic.

A potent combination of tangible, textured design/location work captured on beautiful 35mm and digital camera action immediacy for its relentless, constantly escalating adventure chase structure, and of course an absolute fucking psycho with a punishment fetish in charge of it all who wants to make sure you feel every filthy, torturously depraved piece of bodily harm endured because to suffer and survive colonization is to live or something. Idk but it's gorgeous and brutal and the closest thing to a prestige Italian cannibal film we're likely ever going to get.

Who would've thought that Mel Gibson with all his issues could create such a rich tapestry of an ancient culture without resorting to cheap cliches and stereotypes? "Apocalypto" is two straight hours of the most intense, nail-biting, ferocious, balls to the wall cinema I have seen so far this year. Mel Gibson might just be the best director of all-time when it comes to visceral, bone-crunching cinema. For the entire duration of the run-time I was tense, thrilled, sickened and all around blown away by how well made this film was. I can't believe I put this film off for so long, it's a masterpiece!

Looks like peasant life in the Mayan Empire was pretty rough with head hunters ransacking villages, selling people into slavery, lining them up for human sacrifice, or simply killing them for sport. This film is so good. It's an exceptional work of artistry, parts of which are thoroughly soaked in adrenaline, made by everyone's favorite: Mel Gibson. But I'm sick of talking about movies. It's always contentious, movie talk; with many participants engaging in irrational behaviors and fevered blockings and runnings to admin. Maybe something else could be talked about instead. Shall we discuss religion? Just might be the time for us all to agree on something.
