Rangers star Malik Tillman likened to a young version of Chelsea and Bayern Munich hero Michael Ballack amid impressive season on loan at Ibrox

Since signing for Rangers on loan from Bayern Munich, Malik Tillman has been an impressive asset for the Scottish giants.

The 20-year-old has made a good impression away from his parent club, and has now been compared to none other than former German international Michael Ballack.

Rangers boss Michael Beale was highly complimentary of the young attacking midfielder after he netted twice in a friendly against Bayer Leverkusen.

The newly appointed boss said about the youngster: "I don't want to go too far, but it was like a young Michael Ballack used to play."

Despite such a comparison, Tillman admitted via PA: "To be fair, I think Michael Ballack played at a time when I didn't really realise who he was or how good he was.

"But obviously I know he is a German legend. I saw some clips but to be honest I did not realise just how good he was.

"I know he is a legend and he was a good player but I don't really have any memories of him."

Tillman has four goals and five assists to his name for Rangers this season and, even though his loan deal expires at the end of the campaign, Beale's side have the option to make a move permanent.

However, the American has not made his mind up about such a transfer just yet.

"I think there have been some ups and downs but as I said before, I always try and give my best and keep improving the whole time," said the player.

"I came here to play as many games as I can. I love the club and everything around it, so we will see what will happen in the summer. "

As he progresses through his career, Tillman could soon realise just how big a compliment it is to be compared to Ballack, who won multiple league titles and domestic trophies at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The youngster was recently on hand to help guide his side to victory once again, this time providing two assists in Rangers' 3-2 win against Hibernian in Beale's first match in charge as boss.

The Gers currently sit seven points behind rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, with the two sides set to compete for the title once again this season.
