About this Item
This 4.875 x 7.25 inch, 316 page hardcover book is an 1856 imprint of this title by Ticknor and Fields of Boston with that date shown in Roman Numerals on the title page. The copyright page shows ?Thirteenth thousand.? The brown covers with embossed decorative design on front and back panel ? and gilt lettering on the spine ? show considerable time wear with the bottom two corners worn through. The spine crown and foot show wear and a touch of fraying. The gilt lettering is somewhat faded but clearly discernible. The design on front and rear panel show a double edged border. The interior of the book shows a previous owner?s name with the indication ?St. Paul, February 14th, 1856.? The book shows touches of foxing but most of that is seen at the endpapers ? with the rear of the book showing twelve numbered pages of advertisement dated January 1856. The binding is tight and square and all in all at least a good copy and better of this early American classic. 316 pages. Seller Inventory # 1505-1631
