Michael Fassbender has a reputation for being a bit of a badass—on film, in real life, and in his wardrobe. When it comes to what he wears, the actor favors bomber jackets, square sunglasses, and Bond-worthy three-piece suits. This weekend the 40-year-old Irishman reportedly wed fellow actor Alicia Vikander in Ibiza, and his post-nuptials look was right in step with his signature macho-guy style. The 'fit was a cross between "guy in your neighborhood who may or may not have ties to the mafia" and major movie star—down to the cigar he was holding and his lack of shoes. It was good, style-legend stuff.

As you may have noticed, designers have been busy reworking the tropical-print shirt over the past couple of years, slimming it down, cropping it at the hips, and turning up the volume on the prints. These new reverse–Tommy Bahama shirts make traditionally nerdy vacation style look pretty damn cool, and Fassbender was right to seize the opportunity to wear one. That he chose to wear the shirt with a white tank top and totally nondescript, above-the-knee shorts is what took the trendy shirt from menswear blogger to married badass. His '70s-style Pared aviator sunglasses and pendant necklace also helped to drive that point home. This is not a guy who sweats what he's going to pack for a trip, but that doesn't mean he won't look great once he gets there.

Whether you're gearing up for a wedding in a tropical locale this winter or just want to figure out how to strike a balance between try-hard and sad-dad at the beach, copping Fassbender's style is a wise move. Turn up the rebel vibe even further by getting the shirt and shorts in black instead of navy blue. Out-badass-ing Michael Fassbender isn't easy in real life, but in your closet, it can be done.
