Colin B. Thompson

Obituary

It is with the most incredible heartbreak and sadness that we say farewell to our son/brother, Colin Brian Thompson.

Colin was born June 4, 2006 and passed away on May 17, 2023. Colin was 16 and the youngest of 3 boys. He is survived by his parents Theresa (Halle) and Scott Thompson, his brothers Brian J. (Kristin) Halle, Tyler S. Thompson, grandparents J. David and Diane (Fone) Thompson, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Vernon L. Halle and grandmother Ethel M. (Kulics) Halle.

Colin was born in Abington, PA, moved to Hatfield when he was 1, then to Sellersville when he was 13. He was in the inaugural first grade class of the new Mater Dei Elementary. His class was the first graduating class (although Covid interrupted) that started Mater Dei. He went on to Lansdale Catholic High School for his freshman year, then moved to Pennridge High School his sophomore year. He was in the Upper Bucks Tech School for Automotive Technology, and thoroughly enjoyed this class. He also had college aspirations. He was employed by CVS part time. He was a Cub/Boy Scout for a few years, and also played little league baseball for the Hatfield Little League.

Colin was amazingly smart and quick witted. Colin had many great loves in his life. He thoroughly enjoyed and loved each of his friends and their families, who all loved him greatly in return. He adored his girlfriend Leah, of almost 1 ½ years, and she adored him, too! He loved video games and gaming is how he met Leah. He loved snowboarding. He would request, and get, an occasional day off from school to hit the slopes, so there would be less people and more boarding. He loved sports and he would steal any opportunity he could to go to a Phillies, Eagles, Flyers or 76ers game. It didn’t really matter to him which sport or game, he simply just wanted to be a part of the crowd and the action. The very last game he attended was the Eagles NFC Championship game, thank goodness the Eagles didn’t disappoint! He loved his BMW, it was his dream car! He loved learning how to work on cars. It was his newest and most burning passion. He couldn’t wait to work on his and was looking forward to a new ‘tune’ (automotive people know what this is) for his birthday and was amped up to install it. Colin loved the beach. He was looking forward to being able to drive there on his own this summer, now that he had his license. He loved being out on the bay on the personal watercraft or the speed boat. Colin loved his puppy girl, Khloe. He had no idea that a puppy was coming to the family - Khloe just showed up on January 18, 2021 and stole his heart immediately. She always heard Colin’s car coming before he even came up the driveway. Khloe started barking, running around the room and ended up in the window above the garage barking until he pulled in. Khloe would then very excitedly wait for him to come in and greet him with jumps and love.

Colin loved music and always wanted to go to a concert. We were hoping maybe Aerosmith in September. Aerosmith might not be his first choice to go see, but again it’s all about the experience for him and we are sure he would have loved it. Most importantly and above all else, Colin loved his family. He loved family gatherings, birthdays, bacon roasts, and holidays. He made an extra effort this year to be at dinner on Mother’s Day. Colin always had a smile on face and an empty stomach when he went to his brother Brian’s and sister in law Kristin’s house. He looked forward to Brian’s sous vide filet mignon or ribeye and Kristin’s crockpot mac and cheese. Colin was always looking to grow up faster.

Colin was 12 years old when he found out he was going to be an uncle. When he learned of his big promotion, he decided that meant he could stay up later, get a cell phone and credit card. Colin also loved Brian and Kristin’s dogs, Duke and Duchess. He loved them so much that he spent hours on the couch petting them even though he was allergic and sneezed for hours after he left. Colin loved every moment he spent with his brother Tyler, talking about modifying their cars to the best of modern performance. Every chance he got, Colin would tell us all that he loved us. Colin’s wonderful, goofy grin greeted the world, letting us all know how much he welcomed you into his kind, loving and wonderful heart. His loss is a great sadness to us all. He is so loved by those of us who were fortunate to have him in our lives. Colin had so many things in his life that he loved, but we listed too many already. Our hearts are broken and our souls are crushed by this tragic loss. Colin is, and always will be, deeply missed. One thing we know for sure, Colin attacked his life with a plan, joy, silliness, and love. He wants us to remember him for his animated spirit, love of life and immense love for all of us. That’s how we will honor him.

To My Brother (a note from Tyler Thompson): Colin was my best friend and my baby brother. We had always talked about how we were going to build our cars together and be at each other’s side as much as possible. He always taunted me by saying that when we built our cars, that he and his car would always win in a race. We had always talked about how he wanted to go to takeovers and car shows. He always wanted to go to money runs, which are drag races for money, he dreamed of being able to do that one day. He was going to win the ‘dig races’ and I was going to win the ‘roll races’. We were supposed to do everything together, make it to the top together. I’m never going to get the chance to see him build his car, graduate, have a career, get married, have children and grandchildren. My biggest regret in life is that he always said that he loved me and I would never say it back, because I always hated saying the words out loud. When I was talking to his girlfriend Leah, I had expressed the pain of never saying it back to him. She told me that after he would say I love you and I didn’t say it back, he would always look at everyone and say “He’s just really stubborn, I know he loves me back.” I wish I had said it back at least once. I miss you and I love you Colin!

To My Boyfriend (a note from Colin’s girlfriend, Leah): It’s never easy to lose someone who you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with and start a family. Colin was the sweetest boy I have ever met and he had the purest soul. I loved him with my whole heart and I know he loved me with his. No matter what, he always made sure everyone else was taken care of before himself, and I will forever cherish him. He had a big future ahead of him and left us way too soon. He was one of the smartest people I know and he will forever be protecting us.
