Andriy Shevchenko encourages athletes to appeal to Russian citizens

Andriy Shevchenko, football player and former coach of the Ukraine national football team, is confident of the influence that sport can exert. He is glad that football players are constantly encouraging Russian citizens to stop the war.

My mom is in Kyiv now. My sister and aunt as well. A lot of relatives and friends are in Kyiv. They do their best to support. Sport has a great influence. It is right that our football players and athletes constantly encourage Russian citizens to be sensible before it is too late.

As long as there is a war in our country, participation of Russian and Belarusian teams in championships is out of the question. I think it is the right trend. The global sports community is with us. Everyone supports us."
