Elliot Page’s character in The Umbrella Academy will come out as transgender in the show’s upcoming third season, he shared on Tuesday. “Meet Viktor Hargreeves,” Page wrote on social media alongside a photo from the Netflix series, which returns June 22. Netflix retweeted Page’s post, adding, “Welcome to the family, Viktor—we’re so happy you’re here.”

Page, who first came out as transgender in December 2020, played cisgender woman Vanya Hargreeves in the show’s first two seasons. At the time, Variety reported that Page would continue to star on The Umbrella Academy, and that Netflix was updating all of his previous credits to reflect the actor’s transition. Sources told Variety then that there were no plans to change Page’s character’s gender on the show. Now the character, one of a band of adopted siblings with superpowers, will be known as Viktor.

Season three of The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic book series by Gerard Way, will include returning cast members Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min, in addition to new additions such as Cazzie David and Euphoria’s (dearly departed) Javon “Wanna” Walton. Netflix’s log line for the new season teases, “Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”

Still to come for Page is a forthcoming memoir, Pageboy, which will explore his life, career, and recent transition. In April 2021, the actor told Vanity Fair, “For the first time in, I don’t even know how long, [I am] really just being able to sit by myself, be on my own, be productive, and be creative. It’s such an oversimplification to say it this way, but I’m comfortable. I feel a significant difference in my ability to just exist—and not even just day to day, but moment to moment.” He added, “Now I’m finally getting myself back to feeling like who I am, and it’s so beautiful and extraordinary.”
