Minnesota Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley has been released from jail after being held in custody on allegations of marijuana possession and receiving and concealing stolen weapons, his attorney Steven Haney told The Athletic.

There are no official charges at this time, Haney told The Athletic.

Police arrived at Beasley’s home in Plymouth, Minnesota, on Saturday night and took the 23-year-old into custody. Beasley was being held without bail at Hennepin County Jail.

“We are aware of the situation involving Malik Beasley and are in the process of gathering information at this time,” the Timberwolves said in a statement issued Sunday morning.

“At the time of the incident, multiple individuals were present at the residence,” Haney said in a statement to The Athletic earlier Sunday. “The allegations against Malik will be defended vigorously.”

According to a statement from Plymouth Police, they received a call on Saturday afternoon after a car stopped in front of the residence Beasley is renting in the Minneapolis suburb and was confronted by a person who allegedly tapped on the window of the car with a gun and told them to get off the property. The person making the report to police said the gun was pointed at the car as they drove away.

Police responded by setting up a perimeter near the residence and said they “detected a strong odor of marijuana.” Police stopped a car that attempted to leave the property, detained the three people in the car, but eventually released them. While this was happening, a man who identified himself as the homeowner was yelling at police, according to the statement.

Police eventually searched the home after obtaining a search warrant and found marijuana and “numerous” guns, including one that was allegedly stolen. Beasley was then taken into custody, but police have not identified who is alleged to have pointed the gun at the car that initially stopped at the house.

According to a source, police have received multiple trespassing complaints on Beasley’s home in the past.

The Timberwolves are holding a three-week, voluntary camp at their practice facility in Minneapolis, which was granted by the NBA to the eight teams that did not qualify for the Orlando bubble. Beasley participated in individual workouts in the first week of the camp, but was not with the team last week when they opened five-on-five, group workouts, coach Ryan Saunders said.

Beasley’s contract status could have played a role in his decision to sit out the group portion of the camp. Any injury suffered could have affected his ability to get a long-term contract this offseason.

Beasley is set to become a restricted free agent when the NBA season ends. He spent his first three and a half seasons with the Denver Nuggets before being traded to Minnesota in February. He flourished when he was moved into a starting role with the Timberwolves, averaging 20.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and shooting 42.6 percent from 3-point range in the 14 games he played in before the season was shuttered due to COVID-19.

Beasley was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.
