Description

个人导航系统
本发明涉及用于家用电器用户控制的控制装置领域。具体地说，本发明涉及一种可以使用网络发送信息的控制装置。
已经变得越来越重要的是，使家庭客户能够得到和使用从家庭或业务外接收的丰富信息，并且使用这种信息来观测或控制家庭/业务电器或客户电子装置。在最近时间，因特网和全球网(WWW)已经成为重要的新电子信息源。另外，经电缆或卫星通信得到的无线电和电视广播也成为适用于家庭或业务客户的另外信息源。此外，常规电话网络是另一个信息源和一种有价值的信息通信媒体。
尽管这些各种形式的信息源和电子通信媒体存在，但先有技术系统还不能有效把这些信息源和通信媒体结合成容易使用和方便的控制装置。因为信息源以高度分散的格式组提供这样的丰富信息，所以把这种分散的信息组合成方便和可靠的控制装置特别困难。况且，因为各种信息源每一种不可能在所有位置都能得到，所以必须提供一种不管什么地方采用都一致有用的控制装置。

在本发明中，电话网络112和调制解调器136可以用作一条从PN200或基站100至信息提供者的返回通道。另一方面，PN200可以使用经电缆作为对常规每次观看付款(PPV)服务的补充的射频(RF信号、有线调制解调器、和/或在电缆上的独立频道。
参照图3，表示的PN200可拆除地插入和电气联接到基站100中。PN包括显示单元240和各种功能键310、311、及312。菜单或选择清单对于用户显示在显示器240上。
通过使用(单个或组合的)专用键、所谓的软键和功能键310和311(功能由显示在显示器中的内容控制，以任何组合定位在显示器240的任何侧，最好在显示器240的左边和右边)、活性显示区域(笔尖或手指触模选择)及/或声音输入。另外，甚至可以使用诸如声音输入或眼睛聚焦之类的高级技术(通过专用设备检测眼睛看的方向，并且用来挑选用于选择的菜单项)。
选择装置用来从固定功能(专用键)或从显示在PN显示装置240的屏幕上的菜单选择，显示装置240的内容在选择过程期间变化。菜单可以以选择清单(滚动或固定清单)的形式或最好以“乒乓菜单”的形式呈现。术语“乒乓菜单”，如这里使用的那样，是指从显示器240一侧的选择清单上选择一项，使一个用于进一步选择的新(上下文依赖的)菜单或子菜单出现在显示器240的另一侧上。进一步的用户选择使新菜单或子菜单出现在显示器240的原始侧。这种来回菜单显示动作就象在乒乓比赛中的来回动作。双侧乒乓菜单结构也向用户提供可见提示，以找到在菜单层次中的路线返回。选择菜单可以设计成用在单手(用于左撇子或常人)或双手样式中。
PN200包括用来提示“返回”功能的选择，该功能使PN200重新显示以前的子菜单。以这种方式，用户通过使用“返回”选择可以“撤消”当前选择以返回以前的菜单，并且进行另一种选择。此外，“菜单”选择由PN200提供，这允许用户从项部激活菜单层次。以这种方式，用户能一路返回到起点，并且开始一个新序列的功能选择和子菜单显示。
使用PN200菜单，可以非常频繁地选择多个菜单项，其他的很少或从不选择。这种用户专用选择图案记录在PN200中以实现菜单的重新排列，从而较感兴趣的(即频繁选择的)项出现在最初(或最顶部)位置，并且/或者更详细地呈现。兴趣较小的(即最不经常选择的)将滑到下部位置或从最常用菜单完全消失(即仅包括在‘全部’选择中)．这种用户偏爱的自动接受可以由用户启用或废止。此外，用户能选择他经常想看的明确偏爱节目，并且明确的偏爱节目可以用来规定菜单项的位置。
在PN200中的存储器是有限的，所以只有一定量的信息(节目数据和与节目有关的辅助信息)能存储在PN200中。大多数人不是有规律地看所有的电视频道，而是仅使用比如说十个频道。在这种情况下，PN200可以存储关于这十个常看频道的传输的辅助信息和关于很少观看的频道的较少信息。同样的策略适用于某些类型的节目。随着用户观看和选择习惯的变化，PN200通过跟踪当前用户选择使其本身自动适应用户。
PN200的功能和特征主要是内装的。但要处理和显示的大多数信息和数据将从外部源装载到PN200中。而且，用于专用或新功能的代码可以装载到PN200中以便暂时或连续使用(软件/固件更新)。PN200可以下载其自己的软件(不仅仅是数据)，因而使其本身适应未来需要。
对于PN200用于辅助或外部数据或代码的源可以经如下任何一种：
1)通过智能卡接口260或插入模块接口262的存储器卡、芯片卡、智能卡、插入模块；
2)在广播网络上下载：TV模拟的/数字的；地面的、电缆、卫星；VBI、专用频道、信息多路传输部分(数字频道)；带内、带外；单向或双向；无线电模拟的/数字的(数字声频广播-DAB)及象寻呼机之类的其他RF服务；
3)在电信网络上下载：电话线、RF移动通信、有线调制解器、和电力线网络(即常规公司，如Palo Alto,Ca的Echelon Corp.,使用在标准电力线上的调制信号提供广播和点对点网络通信)；及/或
4)从诸如局域网(LAN)、城域网(MAN)、或广域网(WAN)之类的专用计算机网络上下载。
基站100与其自己在独立配置中至上述通信路径的专用接口一起工作，或者把基站100能(部分或全部)集成到常规模拟/数字机顶盒(STB)、电视(TV)机、录象机(VCR)、个人计算机(PC)、或网络计算机(NC)中。PN200将直接联接到这些基站100的接口上(例如用电流)，或者经IR或RF连接通信。
PN200使用在制造时定义和并入到基站100和/或每个PN200中的唯一内部号码是唯一可识别的。因而，PN200能用于指定的服务。通过使用唯一的内部号码，PN100能够处理个人概况(“可人格化”)，例如在TV上的个人观看选择、自己用于WWW的书签、个人数据、及基于唯一内部号码的类似信息。
尽管用于PN200的主用户接口是手持显示器240，但在电视机140上的屏幕上显示也是可能的，例如，如果几个人想共享由本发明显示的内容(决定要看什么、到那里、指定什么)。
尽管主要打算供EPG之用(电子节目引导)，但PN200作为标准用户接口在多个用途中是有益的。给出的例子如下：
(1)TV、VCR、音乐无线电(EPG)：时间安排、导航、编程、服务定购：比如点播电视(VOD)、近似点播电视(NVOD)、按次付费电视(PPV)、脉冲按次付费电视(IPPV)、及其他服务；
(2)对于不同电视机、VCR、卫星接收机、高保真(HI-FI)设备、机顶盒等的远程控制(RC)；
(3)用于“网-全局(net-global)”和个人消息、单/双向、电子邮件、家庭银行、家庭采购、服务定购、等的终端；
(4)因特网/www访问：作为寻找站点的导航器，也显示网页内容；
(5)用于信息服务的终端，例如电影/戏曲/歌剧时间表和定票、天气预报(飓风警报)、地方新闻/事件/活动、公共信息(开放时间…)、运动成绩、股票行情、交通(堵塞、机场信息)、游戏、商业广告等；
(6)日历、备忘录、个人数据库；
(7)对于家用电器的远程控制：厨房、空调、加热、安全等；及/或
(8)可携带智能电话或电视电话(如果有无线基站通信)。
在常规模拟有线系统中，本发明需要访问在VBI中携带其信息的规定频道。如果该频道是不可到达的，则有矛盾的情形，因为有其中一次仅能看一个频道的有线电视结构。幸运的是，所有家庭能接收一个限定组频道之一。所以如果PN200的数据在这些频道之一的VBI上传送，并且基站具有其自己的调谐器/接收能力，则保证连续的数据传输。
由于整个美国的频道映象未必总是一致的，所以本发明可能需要识别要在实际系统中使用的频道映象。如果可以自动地识别频道编程或多重服务操作器(MSO)，则基站100中的调谐器120将扫描适用的频道以得到必需的信息。
所有PN200的外部信息都以编码格式经一个或多个频道的VBI中的数据包或经电话网络112接收/发送，或者单独经电话网络112接收/发送。信息由基站100中的调谐器120或调制解调器136接收，这是单独可寻址的。如果启用该服务，则把数据供给到手持PN200，客户将使用PN200通过由调谐器120或调制解调器136接收的编程信息游动。
在本发明的一个可选择实施例中，经VBI的数据传输通过单独使用电信网络代替。该实施例表明在图54中。注意调谐器120、译码器122和所有天线有关部分能从基站100省去。而是，仅包括一个常规的调制解调器136。
从成本的观点看，远程装置200，如果仅用于TV时间表导航，则只需要一个简单的常规调制解调器，例如14400bps(位每秒)。下载例如256k字节的新数据将用约3分钟，这在大多数情况下足够快。然而，考虑到更可靠的特性，特别是WWW访问，一个较快的调制解调器(高达到56k波特)是更希望的。
必须安装至少一个服务器以向远程装置200供给在因特网上传送的信息。能从一个非常简单的服务器开始，该服务器与用户数量成比例地增长。在以后某一时间，在整个美国或其他国家扩展的几种服务器将是有益的。
通过基站100借助于至少一个因特网服务提供器(ISP)连接用于远程装置200的服务器，以允许通过用于远程装置200的用户拨入点(本地呼叫)访问因特网。在一定的低通信量时间期间，安装的远程装置200将以随机分布方式呼叫ISP，以得到与用于远程装置200的服务器的接触。
一旦远程装置200够到服务器，就开放安全通信对话以便以安全方式交换数据。远程装置200通过发送其唯一号码/代码辨别本身。安全通信对话也可以是用于辅助服务的基础。在最佳实施例中，唯一号码/代码能每天仅使用一次来接收新数据。该过程另外保证系统不受非法硬件克隆系统的干扰。在一些情况下，远程装置200也可以直接由中央系统呼叫，以从服务器侧启动通信对话。
远程装置200可以接收的外部数据取决于具体客户已经预订的服务。除在离开高峰时间期间(例如在夜间)的自动拨入之外，服务器能由客户使用远程装置200手动呼叫，以得到立即更新的外部信息(例如，体育成绩、新闻摘要等)。
图4至11是流程图，表明由基站100和远程装置200内的固件或软件进行的处理逻辑。对于熟悉本专业的普通技术人员显然，这种软件或固件能驻留在基站100中的存储器131中，并且能由微控制器130执行。而且，固件和软件能驻留在远程装置200的存储器222中，并且由微控制器220执行。对于熟悉本专业的普通技术人员显然的还有，这里描述的功能性可以等效地在基站100和/或装置200、或者一种结合基站100和装置200的功能性的远程装置200上等效地实施。
现在参照图4，流程图表明当激活一个功能键230时借助于远程装置200进行的处理逻辑。在处理块410中，微控制器220等待用户与功能键230之一的交互作用。当用户按下功能键230之一时，微控制器220在处理块415中接收键激活。例如，用户可能已经输入一个与一个“类型”菜单项相对应的键激活。在处理420中，微控制器220直接或间接地通过一个专用集成电路扫描功能键矩阵230。这种键盘矩阵集成电路对于熟悉本专业的普通技术人员是熟知的。在处理块425中，微控制器220检测和识别由用户按下的键。在处理块430中，微控制器220使用存储在存储器222中的内部表进行查找，以确定与按下的键相对应的当前模式和状态。使用这些表，微控制器220响应键按下识别下个步骤。例如，微处理器220可以在显示装置240上的屏幕显示相对侧显示一个子菜单。该子菜单对应于由用户选择的菜单项。例如，子菜单可以对应于“类型”菜单项。在处理块435中，微控制器220把与由用户选择的菜单项相对应的子菜单写入在显示存储器244中。在显示装置240的原始侧的选择菜单项被强调或高亮，以识别选择的菜单项。在处理块440中，微控制器220设置适当模式或状态指示器以对应于选择菜单项。该动作配置软件以接收下次用户选择。结果，显示与用户选择相对应的程序列表，并且处理流程循环返回到其中微控制器220等待下次用户功能键激活的处理块410。
现在参照图5，流程图表明当基站100从有线提供器110经视频的VBI部分接收外部信息或来自有线提供器110的数据时由基站100进行的处理逻辑。对于经电话网络112和调制解调器136接收的外部信息能进行类似的处理逻辑。
在处理块510中，微控制器130初始化译码器122以便以页或子页的形式连续接收特定数据。把调谐器120调谐到专用TV频道以接收该数据。在处理块515中，微控制器130等待由译码器122检测和译码的数据。在处理块520中，译码器122从有线提供器110经调谐器120接收数据。译码器122向微控制器130发出接收和数据的信号。在处理块525中，微控制器130读出由译码器122提供的数据，并且使译码器能够接收下次数据传输。在处理块530中，微控制器130通过检查奇偶位、汉明位、循环冗余校验、及/或用来确认传输数据的完整性的其他常用方法检查接收的数据是否无差错。在处理块535中，微控制器130解密接收的数据，并且确定接收数据的类型。在处理块540中，微控制器130根据数据类型和根据启用或废止具体消息或数据类型的处理的以前配置的系统参数处理数据。在处理块540中进行的处理联系下述的图6至11更详细地描述。一旦微控制器130在处理块540中处理接收的数据，处理就循环返回其中微控制器130等待下次数据传送的处理块515。
现在参照图6，表明对由基站100接收的外部消息进行的处理。如能在图6中看到的那样，在最佳实施例中由基站100接收的外部消息能包含三种寻址类型。在第一种寻址类型中，消息能包含单个基站100的地址。在这种情况下，寻址的基站将处理其对本身寻址的自己的消息。在第二种类型的寻址中，一条外部消息可以寻址一组基站100。在这种情况下，是寻址组一员的具体基站100将处理这些类型的消息。在第三种寻址类型中，可以把外部消息识别为对于所有基站100的广播消息。在这些情况下，接收广播消息的任何基站100将处理该消息。现在参照表明在图6中的决定块610，为了检查与单个基站100相对应的特定地址的存在，测试外部消息。如果该消息寻址到该具体基站100，则执行处理块615，并且译码和处理外部消息，如在图7和8中更详细描述的那样。在决定块620中，为了检查与该具体基站100可能是其成员的组相对应的一个组标识符的存在，测试该消息。如果该具体基站100是寻址组的成员，则执行处理块625。地址组消息处理联系图9更详细地描述。在决定块630中，为了检查广播寻地址的存在测试外部消息。如果接收消息是广播消息，则执行处理块635。广播消息处理联系图10更详细地描述。已经完成对进来外部消息的处理之后，处理在图6中表明的结束块690处终止。
现在参照图7和8，表明为处理寻址具体基站100的输入外部消息执行的处理逻辑。参照图7和判定块710，如果输入消息是一条启动/废止消息，则执行处理块715。在这种情况下，对应于在该启动/废止消息中的信息设置或复位在内部安全存储器中的适当控制位。处理然后在结束块790处终止。如果输入外部消息是控制消息(判定决720)，则相应地设置或复拉与控制消息中的信息相对应的适当模式/参数(处理块725)。处理在结束块790处终止。如果输入外部消息是个人消息(判定块730)，则把个人消息存储在本地存储器131中，以便以后传送到远程装置200，或者如果与远程装置200的通信当前是可能的，则直接传送到远程装置200。处理在结束块790处终止。如果输入外部消息是基站100软件/固件下载消息(判定块740)，则检查软件/固件下载数据的正确性或数据变坏的任何存在。如果输入下载有效，则用下载数据更新本地基站100固件或软件(处理块745)。处理在结束块790处终止。如果输入外部消息不是与判定块710、720、730、或740中测试的那些相对应的消息类型的任一种，则处理继续到表明在图8中标明A的圆圈。
现在参照图8，在判定块810测试输入外部消息。如果输入消息是远程装置软件/固件控制代码消息，则把控制代码存储在存储器131中以便以后传送到远程装置200。另一方面，如果与远程装置200的通信当前是可能的，则接收的控制代码直接传送到其中应用控制代码的远程装置200。在完成处理块815的处理之后，处理在图8中表明的结束块890终止。

现在参照图11，说明由远程块200进行的处理逻辑。在判定块110中，测试由远程装置200接收的输入外部消息。如果输入数据是消息，则执行处理块1115。如果输入消息是紧急消息，则立即向用户显示消息，并且要求由用户确认。如果输入消息不是紧急消息，则存储消息以便如果远程装置200以后由用户使用则自动或手动重叫(处理块1115)。处理在结束块1190终止。如果输入外部数据是批量数据(判定块1120)，则执行处理块1125。如果批量数据涉及远程装置200中的编程变化，则把远程装置200中的旧数据标记为无效，并且存储变化。在远程装置200内建立关于变化的信息的自动和/或手动重叫。如果批量数据是新/辅助数据，则存储新/辅助数据以便以后在远程装置200中处理(处理块1125)。处理在结束块1190终止。如果输入数据是远程装置软件/固件/控制代码下载(判定块1130)，则在处理块1135确认下载数据的正确性。接着，把生效下载存储在远程装置200中作为更新代码。处理在结束块1190终止。
现在参照图12至53，诸图表明在本发明最佳实施例的远程装置200上可用的各种屏幕显示和功能键操作。如图12中所示，表明一种用户和接口和菜单1200。这样一种菜单能在最佳实施例的远程装置200中的显示装置240上显示。在本发明中，每个菜单在远程装置200上的独立显示区域中至少配置有两组菜单项。例如，如图12中所示，一个第一显示区域1210包含一个可由用户使用图3A、3B、和3C中所示的功能键310选择的竖直布置菜单项。类似地，图12中所示的菜单1200包括一个包含一个第二竖直布置菜单项的第二显示区域1215。如通过本发明的用户接口一贯应用的那样，在一个显示区域中的菜单1200中的菜单项对应于在不同显示区域中的具体菜单项的用户选择。例如如图12中所示，在第一显示区域中的一个菜单项1225已经由用户选择。响应菜单项选择1225，显示在第二显示区域1215中的子菜单选择项。如图13中所示，不同菜单项1325的选择使不同组的子菜单显示在第二显示区域1215中。类似地，在第一显示区域1210中的其他菜单选择使子菜单项相应表示在第二显示区域1215中。
再参照图12，菜单1200也包括一个第三显示区域1220。第三显示区域1220是用来呈现与最近命令选择序列的历史相对应的信息的状态显示区域。使用状态区域1220，用户可以很快确定他/她处于命令选择层次中的何处。在状态区域1220中呈现的信息在随后菜单的描述中变得更清楚。在图12中表明的例子中，显示在状态区域1220中的短语“电视节目”对应于当前模式，在该例子中该模式是用于电视节目选择的模式(如相对于电视遥控器(RC)或录象机(VCR)模式等)。状态区域1220也用来显示菜单选择的历史，如在随后例子中将明白的那样。
再参照图12，表明在第一显示区域1210中的菜单项对应于在本发明的最佳实施例中适用的命令或功能选项的初始集。这些命令和功能支持远程装置200的功能，以便使用户能够容易和高效地管理录象节目选择和可从有线提供器110得到的数据。最初这种菜单项是“Topic(标题)”菜单。“Topic”菜单项使用户选择希望的电视节目类型。如图12中所示，在最佳实施例中适用的标题类型包括电影、体育节目、娱乐节目、音乐节目、或时事节目。对于熟悉本专业的普通技术人员显然，在等效选择实施例中可以显示和选择其他类型的节目选择或标题。在第一显示区域1210中的菜单项清单的第二菜单项中，“Time(时间)”菜单项是适用的。“Time”菜单项使用户辨别感兴趣的时帧，在该时帧期间各种节目选择是适用的。与“Time”菜单项选择相对应的子菜单选择表明在图13中所示的第二显示区域1215中。例如，一旦用户已经从第一显示区域1210选择菜单项，如“Time”菜单项1325，用户以后就可以选择在第二显示区域1215中呈现的子菜单项之一。如果例如用户选择“Now(现在)”子菜单项1330，则对于该例子的生成显示表明在图14中。现在参照图14，注意在状态区域1220中显示的信息辨别选择的第一菜单项(“Time”)，接着是选择的第二子菜单项(“Now”)。显示在状态区域1220中的信息由此辨别命令链或由用户进行的菜单项选择。表明在图14中的信息显示1400对应于跟随有“Now”子菜单项选择的“Time”菜单项的用户选择例子。作为这些用户选择的结果，显示区域1410至少辨别当前时间适用的电视节目的一部分。在该最佳实施例中，信息显示1410辨别当具体节目开始时的时间、其上播送该节目的频道或网络、及辨别节目内容的题目。对于熟悉本专业的普通技术人员显然，与适用各个节目有关的辅助或扩充信息可以类似地用信息显示1410显示。在对于用户交互的另外一个机会中，用户可以分别选择在信息显示1410中辨别的节目选项之一。在图14中所示的例子中，用户已经选择使该选项高亮或独特显示以辨别选择的节目选项的第五节目选项1415。作为该节目选项选择和题目为“Info”软键1417激活的结果，如图15中所示的生成显示提供关于选择节目的更详细描述信息。对于熟悉本专业的普通技术人员显然，对于由图14和15中的例子表明的节目可以提供辅助信息。在最佳实施例中，一个重叠窗口或显示区域1510用来把辅助节目信息呈现给用户。对于适当的命令选项选择，将除去信息窗口1510，并且允许用户辨别其他的节目选择选项。
现在参照图16，表示与图12中表明的菜单类似的菜单1600。如联系菜单1200的例子描述和表明的那样，第一显示区域1210和第二显示区域1215作为乒乓式菜单操作。例如，菜单项清单呈现在第一显示区域1210中。提供示用户使用靠近第一显示区域1210的对应功能键310选择这些菜单项之一。通过高亮在第一显示区域1210中的菜单项之一，与高亮菜单项对应的子菜单项的对应清单显示在第二显示区域1215中。一旦使用功能键310进行在第一显示区域1210中的菜单项的选择，并且对应子菜单项显示在第二显示区域1215中，本发明就允许使用靠近第二显示区域1215的第二组功能键311选择在第二显示区域1215中的子菜单项之一。如在图16中表明的例子中所示，用户使用功能键1605首先选择了在第一显示区域1210中的菜单项1225。结果，子菜单项显示在第二显示区域1215中。用户现在可以使用功能键311选择这些子菜单项之一。在图16的例子中，用户使用功能键1615选择了“Entertainment(娱乐)”子菜单项1610。生成的显示表明在图17中。
现在参照图17，在第一显示区域1210中的菜单项已经用与在第二显示区域1215中进行的选择1610相对应的新子菜单项代替。现在显示在第一显示区域1210内的子菜单项的每一个对应于与来自第二显示区域1215的选择菜单项1610有关的选项。这时，用户可以使用功能键310之一选择在第一显示区域1210内的子菜单项之一。在图17中所示的例子中，用户激活与显示在第一显示区域1210中的第一菜单项有关的功能键1705。结果，显示表明在图18中的菜单。
现在参照图18，显示一个与表明在图17中的功能键1705的激活相对应的菜单。因为在图17和18中表明的例子中，已经选择了在第一显示区域1210中的第一子菜单项1810，所以对应菜单项显示在第二显示区域1215中，如图18中所示。同样，用户可以通过激活在功能键组311内的对应功能键选择在第二显示区域1215中的子菜单项之一。在图18中表明的例子中，用户激活功能键1805。结果，显示图19中表明的菜单。如图19中所示，显示在第一显示区域1210中的菜单项已经用与从第二显示区域1215选择的菜单项1910相对应的子菜单项代替。用户然后可以使用功能键310之一选择在第一显示区域1210下的菜单项之一。在表明在图19的例子中，用户选择功能键1905以选择显示在第一显示区域1210中的第五菜单项。结果，显示表明在图20中的显示。如图20中所示，从第一显示区域1210选择菜单项2010，产生第二显示区域1215内对应子菜单项的生成显示。用户然后可以使用功能键311之一选择显示在第二显示区域1215中的子菜单项之一。在表明在图20中的例子中，用户激活产生图21中所示显示的功能键2005。作为与一小时选择相对应的功能键激活的结果，向用户显示一条消息，提示用户输入时间并且肯定时间输入，如图21中所示。用户然后可以使用数字键或选择性地使用专用数字软键菜单输入时间。用户然后使用在远程装置200上适用的功能键肯定时间输入。

现在参照图30，用户使用功能键3005激活菜单项3010。结果，为用户显示在图31中表明的菜单。如图31中所示，用户然后使用功能键3105选择菜单项3110。结果为用户显示的信息表明在图32中。在这种情况下，用户呈现有一个字母表，借助于该字母表他/她能打入与希望特征有关的关键字。字符输入的其他方法是可想象的/可能的。在该例子中，用户能在图33的例子中所示的窗口3310中输入感兴趣演员的姓名。为了唯一地辨别选择可能仅需要单个字符或姓名的几个初始字符，或者从在图33的例子中所示的另外选择窗口3312中的清单可以选择姓名。完整的姓名在已经输入多个字符之后自动填入，以便唯一地辨别选择。一旦这是完整的，显示的信息就表明在图33中。在这种情况下，对于系统使用字母表菜单显示已经辨别了具体演员。作为该关键字输入的结果，本发明检索包含关键字和对应特征的节目。在找到匹配节目之后，显示信息，如在图34中所示的信息显示。同样，注意状态区域1220表明至当前点的键激活序列。
图35至37表明本发明用来输入与具体电视节目有关的代码号的操作。在图35中，用户使用功能键3505选择菜单项3511。该用户动作的结果表明在图36中。在图36中，向用户显示消息以提示用户输入适当的代码号。在该最佳实施例中，这样的代码号包括两位频道字段、一位星期几的字段、及包括两个小时位和两个分钟位的四位时间字段。响应该提示消息，用户使用在远程装置200上适用的功能键输入希望代码号。该用户动作的结果表明在图37中。在图37中，与用户输入代码号有关的具体电视节目显示在显示装置240上。
现在参照图38至43，一组菜单显示表明本发明用来存储常用选择过程或用来存储个人喜好的操作。作为调用该功能性的初始步骤，用户使用功能键3805选择菜单项3810。该用户动作的结果表明在图39中。存储功能允许用户记录用户功能键动作序列，并且使姓名与具体动作序列相关。一旦用户已经完成选择过程，如具体个人喜好的选择、单个时间及命名的选择序列，例如MUSIC，用户可以简单地按下“Recall(重叫)”和“MUSIC”，以根据预选的用户喜好接收满足这些具体限定条件的节目清单。如下面所述，用户能删除已不再需要的个人喜好。
在图39中，提示用户开始该用户动作序列。在图39的例子中，用户通过使用功能键3905激活菜单项3910而开始。该动作的结果表明在图40中。作为菜单项3910用户激活的结果，在显示(即第一显示区域1210)相对侧的菜单项用与菜单项3910的用户选择相对应的子菜单项代替。用户现在可以使用功能键310之一来激活在显示区域1210中的菜单项。在图40的例子中，用户使用功能键4005选择菜单项4010。这种用户动作的结果表明在图41中。在图41中，能看到在相对侧的显示区域(即第二显示区域1215)中的菜单项用与菜单项选择1410相对应的子菜单项代替。注意状态区域1220已经更新，以辨别至今由用户输入的菜单选择序列。这时，用户可以使用功能键311选择显示区域1215中的菜单选项之一。在图41的例子中，用户使用功能键4105选择菜单项4110。该用户动作的结果表明在图42中。已经完成用户动作序列之后，由表明在图42中的消息提示用户输入用户动作的记录序列的名称。用户可以使用字母字符和功能键输入用于用户动作序列的用户定义名称。记录输入的名称，并且显示与用户动作序列有关的节目，如图43中所示。
现在参照图44至46，一组菜单显示表明本发明用来重叫标记节目清单的操作。通过选择重叫功能和按下适当的软键(例如MUSIC)，可以把复杂选择步骤减少到非常少的键击次数。如图44中所表明的那样，使用功能键4405选择菜单项4410。该用户动作的结果表明在图45中。如图45中所示，一组以前标记节目的用户定义种类表明在第二显示区域1215中。在图45的例子中，用户使用功能键4505选择菜单项4510。结果，显示一个标记节目清单，如图46中所示。可以选择标记节目，并且可以要求辅助信息或把辅助信息编程到VCR中。另外，一个删除软键允许如果是不感兴趣的任何节目则从清单除去该标记节目。过去的标记节目可以自动删除。
现在参照图47至51，一组菜单显示表明本发明用来删除标记节目或个人节目选择的完整清单的操作。参照图47，用户通过使用功能键4705选择菜单项4710调用该功能性。该用户动作的结果表明在图48中。如图48中所示，在第二显示区域1215中的菜单项作为菜单项4710选择的结果，已经用标记节目或个人选择清单代替。在另外一个例子中，图49表明菜单显示的另外一个例子，作为菜单项4710激活的结果。如图49中所示，用户使用功能键4905选择“删除”菜单4910。结果，为用户显示一条消息，如图50中所示。该消息提示用户选择要删除的个人选择或标记节目。在图50的例子中，用户使用功能键5005选择项5010。作为该用户动作的结果，用户接收要求删除肯定的消息，如图51中所示。响应用于肯定的该提示，用户激活诸如“OK”按钮之类的预定义功能键以肯定删除。作为该动作的结果，删除标记节目或个人选择。
参照图52和53，其他菜单显示表明本发明用来控制电视监视器和/或录象机(VCR)的操作。在图52中，各种菜单项显示在第一显示区域1210和第二显示区域1215中。这些菜单项与提供在常规VCR上的标准功能相对应。使用提供在远程装置200上的功能键310或311能选择这些功能的任意一种。作为这些菜单项之一激活的结果，远程装置200发射熟知的红外编码信号以调用在VCR中的选择功能。类似地如图53中所示，与常规电视机中的标准功能相对应的菜单项显示在第一显示区域1210和第二显示区域1215中。这些功能也可以使用功能键310或311选择。以类似的形式，远程装置200向与选择功能相对应的电视接收机发射IR信号。以这种方式，远程装置200能用来控制标准VCR或电视机。
因而，公开了一种用来使用双分区用户接口与一个双分区选择装置监视和控制电子装置的手持装置和系统。尽管借助于参照特定示范实施例已经描述了本发明，但显然对于这些实施例可以进行各种修改和变更，而不脱离在权利要求书中叙述的本发明的边界精神和范围。因而，本说明书和附图应认为是说明性的而不是限制性的。

Claims (41)

1．一种用来监视和控制一个电子装置的控制装置，包括：
一个显示元件，用来显示一个双分区选择清单，双分区选择清单具有一个第一选择清单和一个第二选择清单，第一选择清单的至少一部分和第二选择清单的至少一部分至少部分同时可显示在显示元件上；及
一个选择元件，用来从双分区选择清单选择元素，选择元件带有一个用来从第一选择清单选择元素的第一选择元件，在至少部分同时显示第一选择清单的同时，使用第一选择元件进行的一种选择产生第二选择清单的一种显示。
2．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中显示元件和选择元件驻留在一个手持装置中。
3．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中显示元件是一个CRT监视器，并且选择元件驻留在一个手持装置中。
4．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，进一步包括一个用来从网络接收信息的数据接口。
5．根据权利要求4所述的控制装置，其中信息包括电子节目指南信息。
6．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一种选择用来激活一个功能以便通过节目时间选择一个节目。
7．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一种选择用来激活一个功能以便通过节目类型选择一个节目。
8．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一种选择用来激活一个功能以便选择一个播送台。
9．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一种选择用来激活一个功能以便通过关键字选择一个节目。
10．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一种选择用来激活一个功能以便选择和重叫个人喜好。
11．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一选择种用来激活一个功能以便显示关于具体节目的详细信息。
12．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一种选择用来激活一个标记功能以便为了进一步规定功能的应用标记至少一个节目。
13．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中显示元件包括一种信息显示用来显示以前进行的用户选择的历史。
14．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，其中选择元件包括一种用来根据以前进行的用户选择的历史自动重新排列菜单选择的功能。
15．根据权利要求1所述的控制装置，进一步包括一个用来存储一个唯一标识符的非易失性存储器装置。
16．一种用来监视和控制一个电子装置的控制装置，包括：
一个基础单元，包括一个VBI译码器和一个调制解调器；及
一个个人导航器，经数据链联接到基础单元上，个人导航器进一步包括一个用来显示一个选择清单的显示元件，该选择清单包括从VBI译码器或调制解调器接收的信息。
17．根据权利要求16所述的控制装置，其中信息包括电子节目指南信息。
18．根据权利要求16所述的控制装置，其中显示元件进一步包括：
一个菜单显示元件，用来显示一个双分区选择清单，双分区选择清单具有一个第一选择清单和一个第二选择清单，第一选择清单的至少一部分和第二选择清单的至少一部分至少部分同时可显示在显示元件上；及
一个选择元件，用来从双分区选择清单选择元素，选择元件带有一个用来从第一选择清单选择元素的第一选择元件，在至少部分同时显示第一选择清单的同时，使用第一选择元件进行的一种选择产生第二选择清单的一种显示。
19．根据权利要求16所述的控制装置，其中基站的功能性集成到一个机顶盒中。
20．根据权利要求16所述的控制装置，其中数据链进一步包括一个双向IR链。
21．根据权利要求16所述的控制装置，其中数据链进一步包括一个双向RF链。
22．根据权利要求16所述的控制装置，进一步包括一个用来存储一个唯一标识符的非易失性存储器装置。
23．一种用来监视和控制一个电子装置的控制装置，包括：
一个基础单元，包括一个微处理器和一个联接到微处理器上用来接收外部信息的接口；及
一个个人导航器，经数据链联接到基础单元上，个人导航器进一步包括一个用来显示一个双分区选择清单的显示元件，该选择清单包括从接口接收的外部信息的至少一部分，双分区选择清单进一步一个第一选择清单和一个第二选择清单，第一选择清单的至少一部分和第二选择清单的至少一部分至少部分同时可显示在显示元件上。
24．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中接口进一步包括一个经VBI编码信号来接收外部信息的VBI译码器。
25．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中接口进一步包括一个经电话网络来接收外部信息的调制解调器。
26．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中接口进一步包括经VBI编码信号和电话网络来接收外部信息的一个VBI译码器和一个调制解调器。
27．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中接口进一步包括一个经编码有线信号来接收外部信息的有线调制解调器。
28．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中接口进一步包括一个经机顶盒来接收外部信息的机顶盒接口。
29．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中接口进一步包括一个经RF信号来接收外部信息的无线接收器。
30．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中外部信息包括电子节目指南信息。
31．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中外部信息包括电子商业信息。
32．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中外部信息包括从因特网得到的信息。
33．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中外部信息包括电子邮件信息。
34．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中外部信息包括控制代码信息。
35．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中外部信息包括用于基础单元或个导航器的软件或固件升级。
36．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，进一步包括一个联接到微控制器上用来存储一个唯一标识符的非易失性存储器装置。
37．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中个人导航器进一步包括一个用来接收辅助外部信息的智能卡接口。
38．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中基础单元的功能性和个人导航器的功能性一起集成到相同的单元中。
39．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中基础单元的功能性集成到一个机顶盒中。
40．根据权利要求23所述的控制装置，其中个人导航器进一步包括用作无绳电话的功能性。
41．一种用来监视和控制一个电子装置的控制装置，包括：
一个基础单元，包括一个微处理器和一个联接到微处理器上用来接收外部信息的接口；及
