Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for the transmission of Multimedia applications over an existing one Line network to at least one one Connection line terminating subscriber connection according to Claim 1, a system described in claim 8 for Implementation of the procedure as well as one in the plant usable terminal device according to claim 15.
Multimedia is the buzzword of our time. Behind it hides the possibility of numerous services, such as B. Sound, data, text, graphics, fixed and Moving image information available to a user put. Have been in this area for quite some time tremendous efforts made to do so Networks, terminal equipment and transmission technologies too develop. So far, however, it has failed cost-effective and nationwide transmission media failed to increase the performance of multimedia acceptable prices in the living room and offices of customers bring to.
The invention is therefore based on the object Process, equipment and terminal equipment available too make that allow participants, inexpensively Receive multimedia applications without their usual Communication skills to be limited.
The invention solves this technical problem with the Process steps of claim 1 and the features of Claim 8 and claim 15.
Vorteilhafte Weiterbildungen sind in den Unteransprüchen angegeben.Advantageous further developments are in the subclaims specified.
An essential aspect of the invention lies therefore in multimedia applications (e.g. video films, electronic newspapers, T-Online etc.) via a existing connection line for a time to one Transfer subscriber line during which no other Communication service, such as B. Telephone connections that Connection line occupied. The problem arises that while broadcasting a multimedia application over the Connection line a conversation on the connected Arrive subscriber connection over this connection line or can depart from this. To avoid a collision or Even losing the conversation is a priority Control device provided that ensures that a outgoing or incoming communication service that does not Multimedia application is available immediately via the connecting line is switched through. This ensures that everyone Non-multimedia applications always take precedence over one too just enjoy running multimedia application. By none Losing multimedia information becomes more advantageous Way in such a case the transmission of the multimedia Application interrupted by the priority control device or ended. The transmission of the multimedia application can even with a lower transmission speed to continue if the priority communication service not the entire transmission bandwidth of the connecting cable needed. After the other communication service stops has been, depending on the design of the system Multimedia application again from the beginning or from the Place to be transferred to where they were before has been interrupted. To do this, however, the last leaked data from the multimedia application, for example stored in a memory connected to the subscriber be.
The priority control device can in a Participant installed terminal device can be arranged.
If the subscriber has an ISDN connection, the Priority control device expediently in his Telephone itself, another terminal, or be implemented in a network termination device. Also an installation at the network operator, such as Tie Local exchanges is conceivable.
The subscriber connection can be an analog or a digital connection (e.g. ISDN basic connection) act.
With it also high-rate multimedia applications, for example Video broadcasts, over the narrow-band connection lines be transmitted and then by one at Participants set up picture display device with their original refresh rate on the subscriber side is a memory with a suitable one Capacity provided. The memory can be used with one of one Terminal, e.g. B. a video device required Transmission speed can be read out. The over the Connection line broadcast multimedia application can also be loaded into the memory of a personal computer. Of the Participant is then able to save the saved Modify and edit multimedia application. The edited multimedia application can subsequently for Service provider back or to any institution be transmitted.
Via a programmable timer, the Participants advantageously choose which ones Times he let a multimedia application leak would like to.
The invention is based on a Embodiment in conjunction with the accompanying Drawing explained in more detail.
In the figure, a system 5 for the transmission of multimedia applications over an existing access network is shown. Merely to simplify the description, the connection line network contains only one connection line 20 , which connects a subscriber line 30 to a network node 10 , for example a local exchange. The connecting line 20 is a known copper pair.
Although the invention is explained below using an ISDN connection, it goes without saying that it can also be used in other systems, such as, for. B. ATM, ADSL, MDSL, or can be used in analog systems. As is known per se, in an ISDN network, each copper pair 20 on the subscriber side is terminated with a network termination device which functions as a subscriber line 30 and which, for example, has an ISDN basic line (which is used to receive two 64 kbit / s user channels and one 16 - kbit / s control channel is designed) for connecting eight end devices. For example, an operating device 50 is connected to the ISDN base connection of the network termination device 30 and contains a memory 60 , an input field 70 , a priority control device 80 , a programmable timer 90 and, for example, a further control device (not shown). At this point it should be mentioned that the priority control device 80 can be accommodated not only in the operating device 50 , but alternatively also in the network termination device 30 , or an ISDN-capable telephone set 110 , which is connected to the operating device 50 (dashed connecting line) or directly the ISDN base connection is switched on.
Instead of arranging the priority control device 80 at the subscriber, it can also be implemented at the network operator, for example in the local exchange 10 . A PC 100 and a video device 120 are connected to the ISDN base connection and / or to the operating device 50 as further terminals.
We now turn to the mode of operation of the system 5 shown in the figure. It is assumed that the subscriber has called up a multimedia application via the input field 70 of his operating device 50 .
For example, he has decided to have a video movie played from a remote video database (not shown) that he wants to watch on his video device 120 . Since the connecting line 20 is not occupied at the moment, the video film can be transmitted from the database via the connecting line 20 to the network termination device. However, the video signals fed from the video database cannot be displayed in real time on the video device 120 , since the two ISDN user channels of the connecting line 20 together only allow a transmission speed of 128 kbit / s. Therefore, the entire video film is first stored in the memory 60 of the operating device 50 . For example, in order to be able to store a ninety-minute video film with a transmission rate of 2 Mbit / s, the memory 60 requires a capacity of approximately 10 Gbit. The case is now assumed that the transmission of the video film using both ISDN user channels on the connection line 20 has not yet ended and the subscriber wants to start a conversation himself or there is a conversation for him. The priority controller 80 eliminates this dilemma. This is because, in response to an incoming or outgoing communication service, in the present case thus to a conversation, it is able to immediately place the outgoing or incoming call on the connecting line 20 . In addition, the priority control device 80 or the additional control device, not shown, ensures that the transmission of the video film is interrupted or ended. After initiating the call on the line 20 , the priority control device 80 and / or the additional control device can cause the video database to continue the transmission of the video film at the point at which it was previously interrupted by the call. For this purpose, the priority control device 80 remembers the video signal data last written to the memory 60 before the interruption. The rest of the video film is thus played back exactly at the point where the video playback was previously interrupted. As soon as the complete video film is stored in the memory 60 , the subscriber can view the stored video film on his video device 120 at the transmission speed prescribed by the video device.
Weitere Multimedia-Anwendungen, die über eine nicht
belegte Anschlußleitung 20 zur Netzabschlußeinrichtung 30
abgewickelt werden können, sind bekannterweise Telespiele,
elektronische Zeitungen, Teleworking, Fernunterricht,
Teleshopping, Telebanking usw.
Other multimedia applications that can be handled via an unused connection line 20 to the network termination device 30 are known to be video games, electronic newspapers, teleworking, distance learning, teleshopping, telebanking, etc.
So it is z. B. conceivable that a service provider for distance learning transmits a text to be processed to the subscriber via the connecting line 20 , which text is stored in a memory of the PC 100 . The participant processes this text on his PC and sends the revised text back to the company. Not only texts stored in the PC's 100 , but also films, images and other information can be edited by the subscriber himself on the PC 100 and then sent back via the connecting line 20 or transmitted to any destination.
With the help of the programmable timer 90 of the operating device 50 , the subscriber can select the times at which he wishes to feed multimedia applications via the connecting line 20 . Time-consuming multimedia applications can then be transmitted more cost-effectively during the night.
The priority control device 80 or the additional control device of the operating device 50 are designed such that the subscriber can define each communication service as a multimedia application which, according to the invention, is assigned a lower priority than a non-multimedia application. If, for example, the subscriber expects the playback of important image information, he can define the normal telephone conversation as a multimedia application, with the effect that a current conversation on the connection line 20 is interrupted immediately if the image information is to be transmitted via the connection line 20 .
The priority control device 80 is also designed such that it can respond to the ISDN "call waiting" feature. As soon as a call arrives at the network termination device 30 , which is displayed, for example, in the telephone set 110 by means of the call waiting signal, the priority control device 80 interrupts the transmission of a multimedia application and immediately switches the call through to the subscriber via the connecting line 20 .
The invention enables inexpensive transmission of multimedia applications to a customer without the customer being restricted in his individual communication options. With the integration of multimedia applications in the ISDN network, the connecting lines 20 are also better utilized than before. This results from the fact that the connecting lines are currently only 5% full. In other words, 95% of the possible load time remains unused.
