[Rewarded Review] Ready, Set, ACTION!

I'll preface this with the fact that I use a motorcycle for my daily transportation needs, and as such it's not really possible to have a dash-cam, so the next best thing is an action camera mounted either on my person, or on the bike. That being said, the Osmo Action 5 Adventure bundle is great for this, the included pack of 3 rechargeable batteries gives me peace of mind on days I need to travel longer distances, I don't particularly have a use for the stick mount that it comes with, but if you are a hiker or a vlogger I can see the use, it's sturdy and extends out nicely. The mounting clip has strong magnets in addition to the physical latch that it attaches with which gives it a sturdy connection that I am pretty confident it isn't going to accidentally come off from. This same connector is on the helmet mount included as well. The included bumper case is pretty sturdy but with how much of this camera is screen I don't think it's going to be all that great in preventing the camera from getting damaged in a more aggressive fall or tumble. But so long as it lands anywhere but the screen or lens, it's probably enough.

Overall camera performance is good, the low light performance is a lot better than I was expecting, and since I work before the sun comes up, it's nice to know if something were to happen on my morning ride, I'll have footage that is useable. Just have to remember to set it to low light mode ahead of time. In it's normal recording mode it isn't terrible low light performance but it doesn't transition between dark and bright environments amazingly well. But I don't think any cameras are really great at that, my own eyes arent even that good at that lol.

And I was pleasantly surprised to find there's enough built in storage space for just shy of 3 hours of recording time, I don't have a lot of SD cards on hand right now that are fast enough to record at full quality on any of my cameras, so this was a happy find that let me get right into using it out of the box without stealing an SD card from another device. Definitely recommend actually using an SD card in the long run, flash memory is a consumable and does wear out over time and repeated use, so for the longevity of the camera overall, definitely stick to SD cards, but in a pinch this will let you record a good amount of footage.

There's a companion app you can download as well, that lets you control the camera, it's settings, and transfer footage to your phone, or tablet, It's functional and does what it says on the tin, and I haven't had any issues with it crashing or locking up my phone.

I'm more used to DJI as a drone brand than anything else, so overall I was impressed with how solid this action camera is. Will need to pick up a couple extra bits of mounting hardware to get the most out of it, but this kit will get you started nicely.

The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro 4K Action Camera with additional batteries and charging case are a direct competitor for other small cameras on the market, but with this bundle, you have the ability to record longer, and worry less about what you're capturing.

Featuring touch screen panels on the front and back side of the camera, you are always in control. I chose to charge the batteries to full capacity before using - when I opened up the battery storage case, all three battery charge indicators were orange. I charged them till they were all green and then inserted them into the camera.

To get the best set up, you need to download the DJI Mimo app, which will give you the ability to set up and configure your camera further, use your phone as another live screen, download and store your footage right away and many many more features. The camera, once set up has a really nice screen on the front and back, you can clearly see what is going on, they are very responsive as well. Being as the rear screen covers the whole camera, I choose to add screen protectors to the front screen, the back screen and also the lens of the camera as well to make sure they are all suitably protected. I've also installed the included 'cage' that goes around the camera for drop protection.

I initially took some footage around my home, and I was absolutely most impressed with it's dark light, low light video capabilities. It really has the ability to capture stunning footage in low light situations with little to no artifacts on screen, low visible noise, but just great quality pictures.

The first time I used it at an event was a Corvette meet, on a warm, bright sunny day, where the light compensation worked really well, showing superb detailing in chrome work on old Corvettes, that wasn't overblown or hunting for the right color balance, to vibrant blue skies around the whole event. 4K at 60fps was stunning, and the 'Rocksteady' feature, which while isn't a true image stabilization setting, did really smooth out the motion from me walking up and down the isles at the Corvette meet quite well indeed. It picked up nice, crisp audio along the way too, without the need for any additional mics or wind socks.

The included onboard storage was absolutely fine for what I needed, but you can boost that with an additional memory card, and you can also download to a storage device or your phone quickly.

The included selfie stick is nice, I wish it had a tripod stand integrated into it, that would be nice. It does come with a couple of adapters, to stick the camera onto surfaces like a helmet or the likes. And there are a whole host of mounting options available for the camera as well.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro camera, I will be using it in conjunction with a DJI Neo on an upcoming trip to the UK and look forward to grabbing a whole host of footage from both sources.
[Rewarded Review] For snorkeling this camera is incredible

I went on a trip to Hawaii recently, and decided to get an underwater camera. I did not realize the new action cameras all came out a couple weeks prior to my trip, I opted for this one as it seemed the most reliable and straight forward to use. I am a professional photographer so quality matters to me, and I've avoided action cameras as they all seemed mediocre quality. But for funsies underwater, this camera was amazing. I recorded at 4k/120fps with rocksteady at wide - 12mm equivalent. Looking back I wish I used the standard 15mm equivalent as I'm more concerned about getting shots of the fish as close as possible before they swim off.

But in any case, being able to just leave the camera on while underwater for nearly an hour, recording the whole time, and the battery not die out was great, and the small file size was great and easy to cut down to less than 2 minutes of the best fish encounters. Slowing the footage down to 20% in davinci was great as the fish move so fast that the slow-mo still gives the appearance of the fish moving gracefully at normal speed. The auto white balance was incredible, the colors of the fish were vibrant and accurate, and the few times I had the camera just above water to underwater it'd adjust within a couple seconds.

I got the adventure combo as the camera itself is waterproof up to 10m(or is it 20m) and I never went more than 5m deep. And more importantly I wanted the extension rod rather than the floating handle, as the 3ft extension allowed me to get the camera far closer to fish before they'd swim away. Theres no way I'd have gotten the great footage I got with the floating grip. And again for my snorkeling needs, the waterproof case was completely unnecessary as I'd never go deep enough to need its added depth protection. If anything, maybe find a way to clip the camera to your swimsuit so you can swim faster with both arms when needed, or have the handle wrapped around your wrist in case you lose your grip. I never dropped the camera myself, and if I did, it'd only fall at most 15ft deep where I'd be able to grab it at the places I snorkeled.

For hiking or anything else above water I use my full frame mirrorless cameras, I don't do any crazy sports so I can't speak to the quality issues with the bitrate, but for snorkeling this camera has been more than good enough.

I do hope they add other clip on lenses like a macro lens as the new gopro 13 has, as that type of lens I could do some creative work with above ground. But otherwise no complaints at all with this camera for my needs!
[Rewarded Review] Best action cam on the market

The DJI Action 5 Pro is my first action camera and so far, I’m very impressed with its video quality. I always wanted to get a GoPro, but after looking closely at DJI, I believe their hardware is superior, and I think I’m right. Things like shooting in D-Log M 10-bit gives me so much flexibility in post-production for things like color grading, etc. The dynamic range is incredible, preserving detail in both highlights and shadows even in challenging lighting conditions. Colors are rich and accurate and the footage has a really professional look to it. I can't wait to see what kind of cinematic shots I can get with this camera while exploring Japan later this month! The Adventure Combo accessories, like the extra batteries and magnetic mounts, are going to be super useful for long days, plus all three of them will charge fully in about an hour. There is a convenient charger case that holds all 3 batteries at once that also doubles as a storage case. DJI really nails the design of this camera and its accessories. I’ve ordered the official DJI case as it looks like it’ll be a perfect fit for the camera, batteries, charger, and “selfie stick.”

Using the camera is almost suspiciously simple; both screens are touch-screens and get very bright, which should be useful in bright sunlight. The menu system is logical and easy to understand, so much that someone who has never used an action camera (like me) can pick it up for the first time and use it right out of the box. I plan to add some ND filters to it down the road, and after looking at the options, I recommend the DJI branded ND filters since they are magnetic and designed specifically for this camera. The camera also features a depth and altitude sensor, so if you are using it while diving, for example, the camera can provide a more robust experience to the videographer than simply recording a video.

Speaking of DJI gear and shooting on the go, I recently picked up the DJI NEO drone and using it in conjunction with the Action 5 Pro is honestly all you need for the vast majority of travel or adventure-related needs. The Action 5 Pro and the NEO are both ridiculously small and extremely lightweight and portable. I also feel how DJI priced both the action camera and NEO drone which are perfect for both the casual traveler and those who make their living via YouTube videos. The footage and audio from both are very good for the price! I’m looking at getting the DJI microphones down the road for interview style videos.

In all, I can easily recommend the DJIO Action 5 Pro camera, specifically this Adventure Bundle, since it contains all you need for tons of high-quality footage from whatever you are into, diving, hiking, skydiving, driving, etc. You can also use the Action 5 Pro as a webcam connected to your computer. Really neat and I highly recommended it to anyone interested in an action cam!
