Just like Nintendo before it, Sega is embracing its old games consoles and relaunching one in miniature form. On Sept. 19, the Genesis Mini will be launched worldwide, and with it, the ability to play 40 classic games on a 30-year-old system.

As Kotaku reports, Sega just held its Sega Fes 2019 fan event in Tokyo and during the presentation revealed the Genesis Mini, otherwise known as the Mega Drive Mini depending on where you live. The 40 games included with the system will also vary by territory, but the full line-up has yet to be announced.

Games that are definitely being included with the US version are:

  • Altered Beast
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Comix Zone
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Shining Force
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Space Harrier II
  • ToeJam & Earl

There will be some variation for the included controllers, too. In Japan, the Mega Drive Mini will ship with six-button controllers that are the same size as the original. However, in the US, the Genesis Mini will ship with two three-button controllers and the connection ports are USB meaning no original controller use will be possible.

For those of you who intend to own all regional variations of the Genesis Mini, you'll be glad to hear there's a cheaper version of the Mini in Japan with only one controller included. So the Genesis Mini will cost $80 in the US, but a $60 Mini can be purchased in Japan with only one controller.
